13 Reasons Why season 3: Will Hannah Baker return?

13 Reasons Why seasons one and two focused on the story of Hannah Baker’s (played by Katherine Langford) suicide and its impact on her friends and family. However, if the trailer for series three is anything to go by, we will be dealing with a whole new focus this outing – Bryce Walker’s (Justin Prentice) death. Here are all the details you need on how this could affect the new plot of the teen drama series.

Will Hannah Baker return?

13 Seasons Why broke new ground when it was first released in 2017 by dealing with the consequences of suicide.

In the first season, viewers followed Hannah through the tapes she sent to her classmates which detailed why she made the choice to end her life.

In the second she appeared again in flashbacks and as a recurring vision to her friend Clay Jenson (Dylan Minnette).

The series ended with the trial against the school district ruling that they were not guilty in Hannah’s suicide and her story was seemingly brought to an end.

This was confirmed by the actor who plays her, Katherine Langford when she admitted that she would not be returning in season three in an Instagram post.

She wrote: “‘Hannah…I love you…and I let you go'” Those are the words I was able to say six months ago, and now can finally share with you as my journey on @13reasonswhy has officially come to an END!

“As most of you know, this was my first ever job and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to tell Hannah’s story so fully in season one, and to be asked back for a season two.”

The actor revealed more details about this in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year where she spoke about how difficult it was for her to film the second series.

She told the publication: “It was kind of like being in purgatory for season two, and then being able to officially say goodbye to her.

“It definitely felt like time. For me, letting Hannah go was in season one, season two was for Clay to let her go. It was being able to assist Clay on that journey.”

Viewers watched her do this in the season two finale when Clay finally says goodbye to her apparition in an emotional scene in the church.

The actor added: “In a way, doing that scene in episode 13, I’ve so often referred to it as it was the hardest scene because it’s the scene where I had to let her go.

“I think coming back this season was challenging because it was playing her but not really her.”

Now, Hannah is confirmed to definitely not be returning for another outing, the show will be focused entirely on a new storyline this season.

The trailer revealed Bryce had been killed in the intermediary between series two and three.

Examining the returning characters of the show in the trailer, there are hints that everyone could be a suspect in his murder.

Much like the character of Hannah in the first few seasons, it is expected that Justin Prentice will be appearing in a number of flashback scenes.

This has been confirmed by IMDb listing the actor as appearing in all 13 episodes of the new series.

13 Reasons Why season 3 will be released on Netflix on Friday, August 23.
