In September 2019, Netflix announced 13 Reasons Why season four would be the last. Following the news, a Netflix spokesperson told Express.co.uk the reason for 13 Reasons Why ending was a ‘natural conclusion.’ They said: “Series four will feature the core cast’s graduation from High School which will be a natural conclusion to the show.“ Express.co.uk has everything you need to know about the final season.

When is season 4 of 13 Reasons Why coming out?

Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet confirmed an official release date for 13 Reasons Why season four.

Frustratingly, 13 Reasons Why does not have a set release pattern with the first series dropping in March 2017, the second in May 2018 and the third in August 2019.

Filming for the final series began in August 2019, so fans can expect the final series of 13 Reasons Why by Summer 2020.

Express.co.uk will update this article when more information is available.

Just like the first three seasons, the fourth series is likely to have 13 episodes in total.

The entire series will also drop on Netflix all at once, so viewers can binge-watch the series in one go.

For now, the first three seasons are available to stream and download on Netflix now.

For now, it remains unclear whether Justin Prentice will reprise his role as Byrce Walker for the fourth season.

Byrne was killed in season three, but if the show follows the same pattern as season one, Byrce should be back in the form of flashbacks.

There is mystery also surrounding the return of Timothy Granaderos, who played Montgomery in 13 Reasons Why.

Monty wrongly took the blame for Byrce’s murder and was killed in prison.

Alex was the one who killed Byrce, so it is possible the ghost of Monty could come back to haunt Alex in the final season.

Katherine Langford who played the show’s main protagonist Hannah Baker did not reprise her role for season three of 13 Reasons Why.

Although Langford has said her time on the show is over, fans are hoping for the possibility that for the show’s final season, Langford could make a guest appearance in flashbacks.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Langford said: “It was kind of like being in purgatory for season two, and then being able to officially say goodbye to her.

“It definitely felt like time. For me, letting Hannah go was in season one, season two was for Clay to let her go. It was being able to assist Clay on that journey.”

She added: “But I think that ultimately it was important to have her back for a second season and assist in continuing the dialogue from season one and following a lot of the other characters this season, particularly Clay.”
