10 Greggs menu items that fans of the bakery chain want to come back

NOSTALGIC Greggs fans are sharing the gone but not forgotten bakes and sweet treats that they’d love to see come back to stores.

From macaroni pies to meat and potato pasties, you might remember these baked foods from years gone by.

How many of these Greggs goodies do you remember?

Sadly Greggs doesn’t sell these products in their stores anymore, but that hasn’t stopped fans from calling for their return.

The baked goods giant does bring back classic food every now again, often for a limited time.

While there’s no word on if these treats will make a comeback, that doesn’t stop us keeping everything crossed for a future return.

Until then, we’ve rounded up the most called for Greggs products that have disappeared from shelves.

Macaroni pie

Pasta and pastry is surely the ultimate combo, so it seems surprising that Greggs scrapped this carb-loaded snack from the menu.

Only ever sold in Scotland at a price of two pies for £1.50, it was made with a hot water crust pastry case filled with macaroni cheese.

Greggs confirmed the pie was no more in 2015 after it failed to sell as well as expected.

Meat and potato pasty

Greggs’ meat and potato pasty has been missing from shelves since around 2019.

Responding to fans on Twitter, the retailer confirmed in December that they’ve been temporarily removed – but there’s been no word since on when they’ll be back.

As the name suggests, the bake, which cost £1.25, was filled with beef and potato – a classic combo.

While Greggs still does a beef and vegetable pasty, it just doesn’t cut it for some customers.

Greggsnut

Launched in 2013, the Greggsnut was essentially a cross between a croissant a doughnut – sounds tasty, right?

But it was discontinued in 2017 and sadly, Greggs responded to a tweet last year confirming there are currently no plans for a return.

For those who never tried it, the Greggsnut cost £1 each and came in two flavours: summer berry and crème, and caramel and pecan.

Bridie

Another snack that was exclusive to Scotland: the Bridie.

This snack originated from Forfar and contained a simple yet tasty combination of mince meat and onion.

But unlike other Greggs treats, this one was shaped in the classic form of a pasty.

They stopped selling them from around late 2018.

Katsu chicken curry lattice

Fans of a creamy chicken katsu curry are crying out for Greggs to bring back this lattice treat.

Launched in 2016 and priced at £1.50, it contained breaded chicken with a spicy breadcrumb finish on top of the bake.

Unfortunately it was only around for a limited time and was taken off the menu the very same year.

That hasn’t stopped fans remember it though and asking for the curry bake to come back.

Ham and cheese bake

Greggs used to do a gooey ham and cheese bake, but this stopped in 2015.

Wrapped in a crispy pastry, the centre contained a generous helping of cheddar cheese with chunks of ham.

You also used to be able to get these in Iceland, as part of the supermarket’s exclusive Greggs range, but they’ve also stopped selling them.

Steak and cheese roll

Greggs is famous for its sausage roll, but did you know it used to a steak and cheese roll?

They did up until the middle of 2019,  much to the disappointment of fans – you can’t even get them in Iceland anymore.

They were made with shredded beef and Stilton cheese, along with a rich meaty gravy.

Prawn baguette

This fish-filled sandwich was packed with prawns and mayonnaise, complete with a soft baguette roll.

Sadly Greggs says it wasn’t very popular, so they gave it a rest in 2017.

It cost around £2.50 and by the looks of it, customers would still pay that money to see it come back.

Chocolate gateau

When you think of Greggs’ sweet section, you usually think of doughnuts and biscuits – but there used to be a chocolate gateau.

This was also deemed not very popular with customers, so it was pulled in 2018.

They used to sell it as a whole cake, rather than slices, making it an indulgent treat.

The pulled pork bake was a limited edition product, but it still didn’t hurt any less for some customers when it was removed from stores.

It was made with pieces of pork with red onions in a BBQ sauce and was first brought out in 2014.

They then released it again the following summer but it hasn’t been seen again since 2018.

We’ve rounded up nine ways to save money at Greggs including how to get free drinks and doughnuts.

And did you know Greggs is launching a nationwide delivery service with Just Eat?

The most high-profile news to come from Greggs this year is its eagerly-awaiting vegan steak bake.
